Job Requirements

  • 5 plus years of culinary experience
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Demonstrated team building ability
  • Full knowledge of sanitation standards, food borne diseases, and food-borne illness and safety standards
  • Must be ServSafe certified or have the ability to obtain one
  • Ability to provide on-the-job training in food preparation to lower-level employees
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs of food products, kitchen equipment and dining furniture on a regular basis
  • Minimum 5 years in high volume restaurant or similar setting i.e. catering, banquets, etc.
  • Minimum 3 years on the job management experience
  • Experience cooking various cuisines including American, Latin, Italian, Asian, Breakfast, Vegan, Gluten Free, etc.

  • ServSafe certification or ability to obtain
  • Experience in high volume restaurant or catering settings
  • Skilled in cooking diverse cuisines including American, Latin, Italian, Asian, Vegan, and Gluten Free
  • Ability to train and develop kitchen staff
  • Preferably ACF Chef de Cuisine certification
  • Familiarity with menu writing, ordering, labor and cost controls

Job Duties

  • Direct and supervise all sous chefs and cooks in kitchen production
  • Coordinate menus, purchasing, labor distribution, and inventory usage across dining units
  • Manage food standards including flavor, presentation, and sanitation
  • Lead the culinary team in creating and implementing new menus that accommodate dietary restrictions and trends
  • Act as the primary chef at VIP catering events and interact with VIP customers
  • Conduct daily staff evaluations and participate in staff improvement plans
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety and sanitation regulations including ServSafe standards
  • Cultivate a positive workplace culture through communication, teamwork, and engagement with student feedback
  • Manage ordering, production quantities, and waste to optimize cost efficiency
  • Maintain and uphold Caltech Dining Services standards and practices
