Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • degree from a certified food service program, apprenticeship, culinary school, or equivalent
  • ten years of food service experience in a high-volume fine dining food operation
  • strong leadership and supervisory skills
  • excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
  • effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • proficiency with computer and office equipment
  • knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
  • ability to handle fast-paced work environment
  • conflict resolution skills
  • ability to promote teamwork and employee motivation

Job Duties

  • Supervise and coordinate activities of chefs, cooks and other kitchen staff
  • interview, hire and train employees
  • plan, assign and direct work
  • appraise performance and reward employees
  • address complaints and resolve problems
  • schedule staff to ensure peak efficiency, authorize overtime and manage labor costs
  • enforce sanitation and cleanliness standards in kitchen and work areas
  • monitor food preparation methods, portion sizes and presentation standards
  • cook and carve meats and prepare dishes during rush periods and special events
  • maintain time and payroll records for kitchen operations
  • promote outstanding guest relations and enforce courtesy guidelines
  • foster teamwork, employee morale, motivation and open communication
  • develop employees as a role model and coach, articulate performance expectations
  • provide recognition and rewards for superior performance
  • improve and streamline department operations and policies
  • resolve conflicts and inspire the team towards achieving vision
  • coordinate with other departments for guest satisfaction and efficient operations
