Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in hospitality or related field
- two years of sous chef-level management experience
- leadership experience in high-volume restaurant or university dining
- proficiency with Microsoft Office
- effective interpersonal and communication skills
- ability to manage kitchen operations and food safety
- possession of Washington State Food Handler’s Card
- ServSafe certification within three months of hire
- valid Washington State Driver’s License
- satisfactory employment reference and education verification
- ability to lift up to 25 pounds
- willingness to maintain daily onsite work presence
- ability to travel to different campus sites
- adherence to HFS and UW policies and union contracts
- commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion principles
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in hospitality or related field
- two years of sous chef-level management experience in culinary operations
- leadership experience in high-volume seated restaurant, hotel, or university dining venue
- effective execution of cook to order menu items
- depth in kitchen management and food and labor cost controls
- proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and communication skills
- experience in training and supervising staff
- ability to address performance issues using progressive corrective action
- certification by a recognized culinary institution is desirable
- valid Washington Driver’s License and Washington State Food Handler’s Card recommended
Job Duties
- Develop and maintain positive and professional relationships with students, guests, and department colleagues
- lead weekly culinary planning and production meetings
- monitor unit safety, cash handling, customer service, and food safety performance
- manage inventory from ordering to utilization including purchasing and distribution
- maintain proper resource controls including cash, inventory, and labor
- train staff in food preparation, production, and display
- design and implement quality control measures to ensure consistent taste, presentation, and food safety
- supervise culinary staff and conduct ongoing performance appraisals
- support recipe input and validation process for dining systems
- respond to customer feedback and complaints appropriately
