Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Culinary training preferred
  • Appropriate health certification
  • Availability for day and evening shifts including weekends and holidays
  • Ability to lift and carry minimum 20 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to stand for long periods and perform physical activities including stirring, cutting, slicing, reaching, bending, and ambulating
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow recipes and directions
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Compassion for elderly residents
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
  • Willingness to adhere to community policies and safety guidelines

Job Qualifications

  • Knowledge of menu planning for geriatric residents
  • Excellent cooking and baking skills
  • Knowledge of restricted diets such as diabetic, low fat, salt free, liquid
  • Interpersonal skills to communicate with residents and staff
  • Compassion and genuine care for the elderly
  • Knowledge of MSDS sheets on hazardous materials and related guidelines
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize workload during emergencies
  • Ability to expand recipes
  • Demonstrates a servant heart and attitude aligned with Bethesda Senior Living Communities' Mission Statement
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Culinary training preferred
  • Appropriate health certification as required by local, state, and federal health departments

Job Duties

  • Cook meals according to established recipes and menus
  • Assist Culinary Services Director in creating menus that meet residents' nutritional needs and accommodate food preferences
  • Present meals that are pleasing to the eye and palate
  • Set up kitchen and prep according to each day's menu and prep for next day
  • Clean dishes, floors, walls, and kitchen equipment maintaining sanitary guidelines
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe storeroom, coolers, and kitchen
  • Assist in planning and cooking of special meals
  • Maintain proper temperatures of steam table, dishwasher, refrigerator, and freezer
  • Maintain confidentiality of residents' personal information and protect residents' rights
  • Maintain professional appearance and demeanor supporting a positive nurturing environment
  • Ensure adequate daily coverage for meal service including taking orders, providing drink refills, and assisting with dining room cleaning and preparation
  • Perform all other duties as assigned or required
