Job Requirements

  • Must possess education that provides skills to read, comprehend, and follow recipes and procedures
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Culinary training preferred
  • Has appropriate health certification as required by local, state and federal health departments
  • Ability to work in a restaurant style kitchen with heat, steam, and cold temperatures
  • Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 20 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks such as stirring, cutting, slicing, reaching, bending, standing for long periods, and ambulating between kitchen and dining room
  • Must maintain confidentiality of residents' personal information
  • Must maintain professional appearance and demeanor
  • Must be able to work independently and prioritize emergencies
  • Must have interpersonal skills to communicate with residents and staff

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Culinary training preferred
  • Knowledge of menu planning for geriatric residents
  • Excellent cooking and baking skills
  • Knowledge of restricted diets such as diabetic, low fat, salt free, liquid
  • Interpersonal skills to communicate with residents and staff
  • Must show compassion and genuinely care for the elderly
  • Must be knowledgeable of MSDS sheets and safety guidelines
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize workload
  • Must be able to expand recipes
  • Demonstrates a servant heart and attitude

Job Duties

  • Cooks meals according to established recipes and menus
  • Assists Culinary Services Director in creating menus that meet residents' nutritional needs and accommodates residents' food preferences
  • Presents meals that are pleasing to the eye and palate
  • Sets up kitchen and preps according to each day's menu, preps for next day
  • Cleans dishes, floors, walls and kitchen equipment maintaining sanitary guidelines according to community's policies and procedures
  • Maintains an organized, clean, and safe storeroom, coolers, and kitchen
  • Assists in planning and cooking of special meals
  • Maintains proper temperatures of steam table, dishwasher, refrigerator and freezer
  • Maintains confidentiality of residents' personal information and protects residents' rights
  • Maintains a professional appearance and positive customer service environment
  • Ensures adequate daily coverage for meal service by communicating with the Culinary Services Director and staff
  • Performs all other duties as assigned or required
