Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • able to read, comprehend, and follow recipes and procedures
  • culinary training preferred
  • appropriate health certification
  • ability to lift and carry a minimum of 20 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally
  • physically able to perform stirring, sifting, cutting, slicing, reaching, bending, standing for long periods
  • able to work in fast-paced restaurant style kitchen environment
  • able to maintain sanitary standards
  • excellent interpersonal skills
  • compassionate toward elderly residents

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • culinary training preferred
  • knowledge of menu planning for geriatric residents
  • excellent cooking and baking skills
  • knowledge of restricted diets such as diabetic, low fat, salt free, and liquid diets
  • interpersonal skills to communicate with residents and staff
  • ability to work independently and prioritize workload
  • knowledge of MSDS sheets and safety guidelines
  • ability to expand recipes
  • compassionate attitude and servant heart
  • appropriate health certification as required by local, state, and federal health departments

Job Duties

  • Cook meals according to established recipes and menus
  • assist Culinary Services Director in creating menus that meet residents' nutritional needs and accommodate food preferences
  • present meals that are appealing to the eye and palate
  • set up kitchen and prep according to each day's menu and for the next day
  • clean dishes, floors, walls, and kitchen equipment maintaining sanitary guidelines
  • maintain an organized, clean, and safe storeroom, coolers, and kitchen
  • assist in planning and cooking of special meals
  • maintain proper temperatures of steam table, dishwasher, refrigerator, and freezer
  • maintain confidentiality of residents' personal information and protect residents' rights
  • maintain professional appearance and positive customer service environment
  • ensure adequate daily coverage for meal service by communicating with Culinary Services Director and hosts
  • perform all other duties as assigned or required
