Job Requirements
- High school education preferred
- Successful completion of an apprenticeship or training program or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to calculate discounts, percentages, ratios and apply basic algebra
- Ability to accurately complete sales and inventory reports
- Ability to hear, speak, and understand spoken English
- Ability to read, write and interpret English instructions and job-related documents
- Ability to fill out forms and write reports
- Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions
- Knowledge of store merchandise including product differences
- Ability to pass a standard drug test
- Ability to perform duties efficiently meeting minimum standards of productivity, accuracy, safety and cleanliness
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and use hands frequently
- Occasional bending, crouching, lifting up to 50 pounds
- Ability to climb ladders for retrieving stock
- Ability to tolerate dust, chemical fumes, and work around fresh produce
- Visual acuity to check ID cards and documents
- Ability to respond quickly to emergencies and safety concerns
- Ability to work in temperature-controlled environments including refrigerated/freezer areas and near heated ovens
- Ability to work in moderate noise environments
- Availability to ascend/descend stairs to break rooms and restrooms
Job Qualifications
- High school education preferred
- Successful completion of an apprenticeship or training program or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of grocery merchandise especially produce and similar products
- Ability to perform accurate cash handling and bookkeeping
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to follow company policies and local regulations
- Capability to perform accurate pricing and price checks
- Proficiency in operating electronic point-of-sale terminals
- Ability to maintain cleanliness and organization of store
- Basic mathematical skills including algebra concepts
- Ability to work efficiently and meet set productivity and accuracy standards
- Familiarity with safety and security procedures
- Able to communicate effectively in English
- Willingness to assist in training other personnel
Job Duties
- Operate a cash register and checkstand to provide accurate and efficient checkout service
- Perform stocking duties according to availability of time and business volume
- Observe all store rules and company policies
- Maintain a neat personal appearance and adhere to dress regulations
- Adhere to health and safety regulations
- Conduct cash drawer audits at the start and end of shifts
- Accurately ring up purchases and process various sales transactions including cash, checks, coupons, and electronic payments
- Assist customers with bulk products
- Bag or package merchandise according to company policies
- Stock merchandise in assigned sections and manage return-to-stock items
- Maintain cleanliness of checkstands and store areas
- Follow security standards and monitor for suspicious behavior
- Assist in training other personnel when necessary
- Record shift hours and reconcile cash
- Verify customer IDs for restricted products and follow policies for check acceptance
- Report price discrepancies and ensure all merchandise is properly priced
- Keep shelves fully stocked and properly faced
- Rotate merchandise according to store policy and pull out-of-date items
- Maintain sanitation standards
- Use and maintain equipment in good working order
- Comply with company policies on cash handling and security
- Participate in store safety initiatives
- Communicate effectively with department and store personnel
- Assist with general housekeeping and conservation practices
- Greet customers and provide courteous service
- Report incidents or irregularities to management
- Follow established procedures for price marking and restocking
- Handle lottery and postage stamp transactions if applicable
- Contribute to store's financial interests through diligent work
- Perform other duties as directed
- Control excessive use of utilities and water
