Job Requirements
- No education or experience requirements
- Ability to exert up to 50 pounds frequently and 10 pounds constantly
- Ability to perform physical activities including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
- Ability to operate equipment such as pallet jack, box cutter, cash registers, trash compactor, forklift, calculator, telephone, intercom, cardboard compactor, copier and fax
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen
- Availability for scheduled shifts and punctuality

Job Duties
- Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store
- Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee's designated department or elsewhere in the store
- Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing out-of-reach items, loading or unloading heavy items, noting and passing along customer suggestions or requests, and performing other tasks to enhance the shopping experience
- Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service to customers who call
- Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment
- Operates cash register accurately and scans products where applicable
- Redeems coupons, food stamps, WIC checks, issues rain checks, processes various payment types including cash, checks, credit cards, completes in-store charges, calculates discounts, counts back change, and issues receipts
- Places merchandise in bags or boxes, gives packages to customers, and assists courtesy personnel as needed
- Answers customer questions and concerns and follows-up with appropriate personnel
- Understands and follows local, state, and company policies on sales of tobacco, liquor, and lottery tickets
- Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines regarding WIC and food stamps
- Stocks, faces, rotates merchandise, cleans shelves, understands shelf tags, knows merchandise locations in-store and in the back room, and assists customers in locating items
- Monitors immediate surroundings for customer needs, store safety and security
- Communicates clearly and distinctly on intercom or telephone systems
- Reviews weekly store advertisements for price changes and sale items
- Maintains register area cleanliness, ensures supplies are adequate, reports improper cash drawer levels, and helps maintain store appearance
- Compares register totals with currency to verify balances at shift start and end
- May give cash refunds or issue credit memorandums for returns or direct customers appropriately
- Practices proper sanitation procedures and maintains a clean and neat work area
- Adheres to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress
- Reports to work scheduled and on time
- Assists store management with displays and special promotions
- Knows and explains code dates on perishable items
- Changes register tape and ribbons
- Assists in other store areas as needed
- Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required.
