Job Requirements

  • High school education or GED
  • sterile processing technician certification
  • certification as Certified Board Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST)
  • ability to perform physical tasks associated with sterilization
  • ability to work under supervision
  • willingness to comply with vaccination requirements
  • dependability and strong work ethic

Job Qualifications

  • certification as Certified Board Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST)
  • knowledge of sterilization techniques and equipment operation
  • ability to follow strict protocols and procedures

  • ability to work effectively in a team environment

Job Duties

  • Decontaminates and processes instruments including compiling instrument sets counting instruments and recording counts
  • sterilizes instruments trays basins with appropriate exposure and dry times
  • prepares instruments for immediate use sterilization when necessary
  • maintains a clean and orderly environment in the department by daily wiping of counters sinks exterior surfaces of autoclaves and high disinfection equipment
  • cleans autoclave chambers on a weekly basis
  • assists operating room housekeeping with room turnover terminal cleaning of operating room suites and daily duties when necessary
  • assists with picking supplies and instruments for upcoming cases
  • performs daily diagnostic testing on sterilizing equipment including test packs biological indicators and diagnostic cycle for endoscope processors
  • evaluates instruments for function and safety when reprocessing
  • provides reprocessing services for ancillary department instruments including emergency room respiratory therapy physical therapy radiology
  • identifies and evaluates loaner instruments prior to processing
  • records loaner information in a log for tracking
  • maintains biological incubator and log evaluates for biological test results
  • provides technical services and assists in operating room recovery outpatient endoscopy and central sterile as assigned and directed
  • works under direct supervision of a registered nurse and reports to perioperative services manager
  • performs other job related duties as assigned
