Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two or more years of experience as Medical Assistant or completion of an accredited Medical Assisting Program
- American Heart Association accredited Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification
- Completion of phlebotomy class or equivalent experience
- Basic computer skills with typing proficiency
- Effective English communication skills both verbal and written
- Certification or registration obtained within 1 year from hire date if newly hired
- Willingness to adhere to organizational policies and procedures
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
Job Qualifications
- Two or more years of recent experience working as a Medical Assistant in a physician office setting or completion of an accredited Medical Assisting Program
- High School Diploma or equivalent with 2 or more years of experience as Medical Assistant or completion of an accredited Medical Assisting Program
- American Heart Association accredited Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification
- Completion of phlebotomy class or equivalent experience
- Basic computer knowledge with ability to type proficiently and accurately
- Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing
- New graduates must obtain certification/registration within 1 year from hire date
- Acceptable certifications include CMA, RMA, NCMA, CCMA, NRCMA, or an active RN or LPN license in Illinois
Job Duties
- Presents a friendly, approachable, professional demeanor and appearance
- Provides accurate information and timely updates to patients and customers
- Uses effective service recovery skills to solve problems or service breakdowns
- Demonstrates teamwork by helping co-workers within and across departments
- Manages work schedule efficiently, completing tasks and assignments on time
- Rooms patients and provides direct patient care under supervision
- Performs point of care testing including venipuncture, urine dips, finger sticks, strep screens, and flu screens
- Maintains infection control standards and cleans, disinfects patient care areas
- Participates in shared governance, committee work, and educational activities
- Documents all patient interactions, services, and charges accurately and timely
- Assists with clerical functions and utilizes medical record and practice management systems
- Communicates effectively with patients, staff, and other departments
- Supports and mentors new staff and promotes a positive team environment
- Adheres to ethical, regulatory, and organizational standards and policies
