Job Requirements

Job Qualifications

  • Proven leadership experience in a complex environment with multiple direct reports
  • Minimum one year background in beer and wine management
  • Knowledge of wines including winemaking science, product rating, growing regions, varietals, flavor profiles, food pairings, and storage
  • Knowledge of beers including brewing science, types, trends, flavor profiles, seasonality, and storage
  • Knowledge of humidor storage and display
  • Ability to delegate, organize, and plan effectively
  • Thorough understanding of retail accounting
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Experience in new product development
  • Proficiency in HEB systems (XPTR, IMS, CICS2) preferred
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Culinary and food processing skills
  • Experience in ordering, inventory maintenance, and shrink control
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment malfunctions
  • Ability to supervise, train, and cross-train staff
  • Maintain sanitation standards
  • Flexible scheduling including opening, closing, and weekend shifts

Job Duties

  • Use independent judgment in employment and business decisions including hiring, promoting, disciplining, suspending, discharging, rewarding, and resolving partner matters
  • Oversee the Beer & Wine Department ensuring a safe work environment, training, customer service, ordering, display rotation, shrink control, product quality, sanitation, inventory control, scheduling, receiving, pricing, stocking, and financial results
  • Maintain production quality, monitor labeling and ingredient changes, source appropriate packaging
  • Request new item set-up and recipe development through Procurement
  • Coordinate holiday special orders and food demonstrations
  • Communicate and model the Central Market vision
  • Manage partner morale and retention
  • Provide excellent customer service and ensure Central Market standards are upheld
  • Ensure availability of seasonal items
  • Prepare work schedules and order products to maintain inventory
  • Monitor department budget and payroll including product and labor expenses
  • Build relationships with customers and foster customer service through partners
  • Educate customers through passive sampling, hand sampling, demos, classes, and suggest serving combinations
  • Design and execute merchandising programs
  • Maintain safety and sanitation of equipment and department
  • Promote division and store events through planning and merchandising
  • Achieve sales goals and prepare financial projections and forecasts
  • Control inventory, manage and reduce food costs, ensure invoice accuracy, reduce food shrink, and manage supply usage
  • Perform duties of Beer & Wine personnel as needed
  • Provide direction, training, and feedback to department personnel
  • Ensure compliance with government and company regulations on product freshness, safety, refrigeration, and sanitation
