Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One year of related kitchen or cooking experience preferred
- Ability to work irregular hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Physical ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and sit frequently
- Ability to climb stairs and kneel occasionally
- Willingness to obtain CPR and First Aid certifications within 90 days of employment
- Valid California driver’s license for food delivery roles
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Commitment to service without prejudice
Job Qualifications
- One year of related experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and comprehend oral and written instructions
- Ability to provide services without ethnic or social prejudices
- General knowledge of homelessness, substance abuse, young adults, minorities, and disabilities
- Knowledge of principles, procedures, and equipment for large-scale food preparation
- Knowledge of kitchen sanitation and safety measures
- Understanding of diet and nutrition basics
- CPR and First Aid certification within 90 days of employment
- Valid California driver’s license if delivering food
- Strong teamwork skills
- Effective oral and written communication

Job Duties
- Participate in the preparation, cooking, and serving of meals in an institutional kitchen facility
- Perform duties in a safe and sanitary manner using proper food handling techniques
- Ensure safety procedures for all kitchen equipment are followed
- Secure supplies and all areas of responsibility
- Assist with the preparation of special diet meals as needed
- Measure and mix ingredients according to recipe
- Use kitchen utensils and equipment such as mixers, food processors, and slicers
- Cut and carve meat, fish, and poultry
- Bake, roast, broil, and steam various main dishes and add seasonings as required
- Prepare and cook sauces, soups, and gravies
- Bake bread, cakes, and pastries
- Participate in cleaning dishes, pots, kitchen equipment, and maintain cleanliness of kitchen and dining areas
- Document and report variations in food preparation and meal delivery
- Complete and maintain records, logs, and safety reports
- Monitor inventory of kitchen equipment and supplies and restock as necessary
- Notify management of workflow issues and resource needs
- Adhere to staffing schedules to ensure safe coverage
- Communicate with service providers and external representatives
- Continually enhance technical and interpersonal skills
- Attend staff meetings, trainings, and complete required certifications such as CPR and First Aid
