Job Description

This position is offered within the school district's Nutrition Services Department, operating primarily out of the Central Kitchen. The department is responsible for providing students with nutritious and wholesome meals adhering to rigorous standards of quality, safety, and presentation. The Central Kitchen supports multiple school locations by preparing and distributing food products in compliance with district procedures and national nutrition standards. This role is integral to the seamless operation of the Central Kitchen and occasionally supports school locations on an emergency basis.

Job Requirements

  • Valid Washington Food Handler's Permit
  • Ability to lift objects up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks

Job Qualifications

  • Valid Washington Food Handler's Permit
  • Knowledge of food preparation techniques and procedures
  • Understanding of food safety and sanitation practices
  • Ability to follow recipes, production sheets and portioning standards
  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to operate commercial kitchen equipment including complex machinery
  • Strong communication skills in English, both oral and written
  • Ability to work in a team and establish good working relationships
  • Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations
  • Ability to follow instructions and food safety requirements
  • Ability to learn federal, state and local regulations for National School Lunch Programs
  • Ability to work under supervision

Job Duties

  • Assists in the preparation, packaging and distribution of nutritious and wholesome food items that meet quality and cost standards
  • Assists in cleaning, maintaining and troubleshooting kitchen equipment
  • Completes daily work activities in assigned food preparation areas, tray line or distribution
  • May be assigned to work in school location when needed
  • Complies with all food safety and sanitation procedures including HACCP
  • Rotates and assists unit employees in food preparation, tray line and distribution tasks
  • Participates in food safety and sanitation training yearly
