Job Requirements
- Bachelor degree or equivalent experience in early childhood education
- one year experience teaching in an early learning program or substitute with student teaching experience
- completion of required ECE/CD units including core and infant/toddler courses if applicable
- Child Development Instructional Teacher Permit or ability to obtain within six months
- Department of Justice and FBI background clearance
- CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to complete
- tuberculosis, MMR, and Tdap clearance
- pre-employment physical
- satisfactory completion of background check including criminal records
- willingness to comply with mandated reporter training
Job Qualifications
- One year professional full-time or part-time equivalent experience teaching within an early learning program
- completion of 24 ECE/CD units with core courses
- plus 16 general education units
- three infant/toddler units required for positions in infant/toddler classrooms
- ability to develop and implement evidence-based curriculum
- strong skills in child observation and documentation
- experience supervising and coaching student staff
- knowledge of early childhood development principles and related laws
- ability to communicate effectively with families and team members
- demonstrated leadership and cooperative teamwork
- commitment to maintaining ethical professional standards
- CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain
- commitment to continuous professional development
- ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Job Duties
- Develop and implement evidence-based curriculum and programming in accordance with the Child Development Lab mission and goals
- function as a collaborative team-teacher providing instruction, supervision and coaching to student teachers and volunteers
- write anecdotal notes that document children's learning and development across domains
- collaboratively reflect on written observations of children and facilitate the process of planning weekly outcomes for children's development and learning
- organize a systematic approach of observation and assessment of children
- assist the Head Teacher in the supervision, training, and evaluation of student staff modeling appropriate early childhood practices and teaching techniques
- participate in professional development opportunities as assigned
- assume authority when assigned to accept licensing evaluations and implement emergency procedures in the absence of the Head Teacher and the Child Development Lab Director
- communicate Child Development Lab philosophy and program policy with families, student teachers and volunteers
- provide input and feedback concerning competencies and abilities of student teachers and practicum students
- assist in facilitating family programs, events and community outreach
- conduct daily programming
- assist in identifying and supporting children or families with special needs, providing information about community resources plan, schedule and conduct family conferences
- share information and observations regarding children's daily activities, progress, and development with families
- identify and report suspected child abuse and neglect to appropriate authorities
- perform a variety of assignments related to the planning, implementation, and conduct of programs
- comply with mandated reporter requirements under California law
- perform other duties as assigned
