Job Requirements

  • Be willing and able to travel 3-4 months at a time within assigned regions
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions in the field
  • Adherence to company safety policies, including use of personal protective equipment
  • Completion of annual Road Worker Safety training
  • Ability to climb ladders and steps repeatedly
  • Possess physical endurance to perform tasks requiring awkward postures and balance
  • Be able to operate vehicle safely complying with DOT regulations
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with crew members and use radios and intercoms
  • Visual and hearing capabilities to observe track signals, data monitors, and audible alarms

Job Qualifications

  • Valid CDL Class A or B with air brake endorsement
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to perform basic mechanical tasks such as changing a tire and replacing a battery
  • Capability to lift and carry up to 85 lbs, occasionally assist with objects over 100 lbs
  • Physical ability to squat, kneel, and crawl under an 18-inch clearance for extended periods
  • Preferred minimum of 2 years of commercial driving experience
  • High school diploma or GED

Job Duties

  • Operate test vehicle and detector car on and off railroad tracks and in all road conditions
  • Perform vehicle inspections and equipment set-up
  • Record and interpret data on computer monitors
  • Service, maintain, and repair the vehicle and detector carriage, including crawling under vehicle with limited clearance
  • Climb steps and ladders to enter and exit vehicle repeatedly
  • Perform ground examination of rails using hand test units
  • Communicate verbally and via radio with pilot and crew members to obtain instructions, safety rules, and announce obstructions
  • Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of vehicle interior and exterior
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and customer procedures
  • Assist with field maintenance and repairs as needed
