Job Requirements
- Willingness and ability to travel 3-4 months at a time within the eastern or western regions
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
- Must wear personal protective equipment including safety glasses, steel-toed boots, hard hats, and safety vests
- Completion of annual Road Worker Safety training
- Ability to maintain awkward postures such as bending, kneeling, and crawling
- Must safely operate vehicle including compliance with DOT regulations
- Capacity to perform physical tasks involving stooping, crouching, and lifting
- Strong visual and hearing capabilities to observe signals and communications
- Ability to follow company safety policies and report violations or unsafe conditions
Job Qualifications
- Valid CDL Class A or B with air brake endorsement
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to perform basic mechanical tasks such as changing a tire and replacing a battery
- Capability to lift and carry up to 85 lbs and occasionally assist in lifting objects over 100 lbs
- Ability to squat, kneel, and crawl under an 18-inch clearance
- Minimum of 2 years of commercial driving experience preferred
- High school diploma or GED preferred
Job Duties
- Operate the test vehicle/detector car on and off railroad tracks and in all road conditions
- Perform vehicle inspections and equipment set-up
- Record and interpret data on computer monitors
- Service, maintain, and repair the vehicle and detector carriage
- Climb steps and ladders to enter and exit the vehicle
- Perform ground examinations of rails with hand test units
- Communicate clearly and effectively with pilot, crew members, and railroad personnel
