Job Requirements
- willingness and ability to travel extensively for 3-4 months at a time within assigned regions
- ability to operate heavy rail-bound vehicles safely
- capability to work in extreme weather and challenging field conditions
- physical ability to perform awkward postures including crawling, bending, kneeling, squatting, and climbing
- adherence to safety regulations and use of personal protective equipment
- ability to communicate effectively and follow detailed instructions
- compliance with DOT regulations including driver logs and vehicle inspections
- completion of annual Road Worker Safety training
Job Qualifications
- Valid CDL Class A or B with air brake endorsement
- excellent verbal and written communication skills
- ability to perform basic mechanical tasks such as changing tires and replacing batteries
- ability to lift and carry up to 85 lbs and occasionally assist with lifting objects over 100 lbs
- capability to squat, kneel, and crawl under 18-inch clearance
- minimum of 2 years of commercial driving experience preferred
- high school diploma or GED preferred
Job Duties
- Operate test vehicle/detector car on and off railroad tracks and in all road conditions
- perform vehicle inspections and equipment set-up
- record and interpret data on computer monitors
- service, maintain, and repair the vehicle and detector carriage including crawling and working in awkward postures under the vehicle
- climb steps and/or ladders to enter/exit the vehicle repeatedly
- perform ground examination of rails with hand test units
- adhere to all company safety policies and use required personal protective equipment
- communicate clearly with crew members using verbal, radio, and intercom methods
- maintain and clean the vehicle and equipment
- ensure compliance with DOT regulations and customer procedures
- assist field maintenance personnel and report any problems to the Chief Operator
- exercise diplomacy and cooperation with railroad personnel
- enter required data into reporting systems
