Job Requirements

  • Three years of experience in a large catering, restaurant, or hotel food service operation
  • one year of catering or banquet experience
  • three years of experience supervising or leading the work of others including assigning, evaluating, and dealing with disciplinary issues
  • demonstrated commitment to working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • ability to prepare reports, budgets, and documents
  • ability to understand and apply policies, procedures, and safety information
  • creativity in developing menus and presentations
  • excellent customer service skills on the phone, in writing, and in person
  • comfortable working in a variety of public and social settings and with diverse groups to plan and coordinate catered events

Job Qualifications

  • Three years of experience in a large catering, restaurant, or hotel food service operation
  • one year must include catering or banquet experience
  • three years of supervisory or leadership experience including assigning and evaluating work and handling disciplinary actions
  • demonstrated experience working effectively with diverse individuals
  • ability to prepare reports, budgets, and documents
  • ability to understand and apply policies, procedures, and safety information
  • creativity in developing menus and presentations for catered events
  • excellent customer service skills on the phone, in writing, and in person
  • comfort working in various public and social settings with diverse groups
  • preferred degree in culinary arts, food service management, hotel and restaurant administration, or related field
  • experience directing employees in complex catered events
  • knowledge of culinary standards, safe food handling, and liquor laws
  • experience costing menus, ordering food products and supplies
  • experience organizing equipment, food, and staffing for events
  • experience managing a unionized food service staff
  • experience in a college or university food service operation

Job Duties

  • Act as the initial contact for catering customers and provide direction and guidance for orders
  • coordinate with Catering Chef and Catering Operations Manager to meet customer expectations
  • ensure successful execution of multiple on and off-site catering events daily
  • follow up with customers post-event to ensure satisfaction and complete accurate billing
  • supervise a 3-person office support staff including staffing, training, and operational decisions
  • manage budgetary responsibilities including staff allocation, menu pricing, purchasing of food and equipment
  • maintain income and costs to ensure financial viability
