- High school or equivalent experience
- one year to three years of similar or related work experience
- ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally
- ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force frequently
- ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly
- physical ability to perform climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
- good vision and depth perception with or without correction
- ability to solve practical problems
- ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals and percentages
- ability to compose original correspondence

Job Duties

- sets the department standards for customer service, employee relations, cleanliness, sanitation, professional appearance and overall profitability

- makes an effort to learn customers’ names and address them by name
- assists customers by escorting them to products, securing products that are out of reach, loading or unloading heavy items, making note of customer suggestions or requests, and performing tasks to enhance the shopping experience
- answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly service
- handles and satisfies customer issues
- determines department goals with store director
- meets with customers to assess needs and writes detailed orders coordinating with involved departments
- contacts businesses and prospective customers about catering services
- develops contracts for exclusive Hy-Vee catering events
- recommends and purchases equipment with approval
- consults on rental companies
- attends department manager meetings and obtains baseline prices
- figures retail pricing and ensures correct pricing
- prepares and oversees bookkeeping procedures
- develops and maintains standard catering practices and quality control
- answers and returns phone calls efficiently
- develops guidelines for department performance in manager's absence
- organizes shows and store events
- ensures proper food temperatures and storage
- troubleshoots and maintains equipment
- maintains adherence to hygiene and dress standards
- adheres to company policies and reports to work as scheduled
- ensures competitive pricing
- attends educational meetings
- performs departmental duties as needed
- assists in other store areas
- completes special projects as required
