Job Requirements

  • Associate's degree or higher in food service or related field preferred
  • ServSafe certification required
  • Must be willing to obtain TIPS certification and be willing to become TIPS Certified Trainer
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a high volume food service environment preferably upscale catering, banquet or resort
  • Valid New York State driver's license and clean driving record required
  • Ability to work a minimum of 50 hours per week including weekends, evenings, nights and holidays
  • Ability to stand and walk for minimum 8 hours
  • Able to lift 25 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to pass Department of Transportation health screening to drive commercial vehicles
  • Must demonstrate safe driving practices
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to enforce union and student attendance policies
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and inventory/purchasing software
  • Ability to work independently and handle emergency customer service situations

Job Qualifications

  • Exemplary customer service skills
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Good computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and vendor purchasing/inventory programs
  • Ability to handle emergency situations and customer complaints
  • Proficient knowledge of HACCP, food safety and sanitation standards
  • Ability to work independently
  • Valid NYS driver's license and ability to drive commercial truck
  • Willingness to work minimum 50 hours per week including varied shifts

Job Duties

  • Executes events in catering, concessions, University Club and special events ensuring excellence in food and guest service
  • Manages day-to-day operations of Catering and Concessions Departments
  • Enforces high standards of facility and equipment cleaning and sanitation
  • Ensures ServSafe and New York State Department of Health regulations for HACCP and Food Safety compliance
  • Completes Banquet Event Order (BEO) process from distribution to event end
  • Adheres to established purchasing programs
  • Ensures stringent inventory and security controls
  • Accurate preparation of inventory, payroll, and other financial and operational statements
  • Performs event follow up activities with guests to ensure satisfaction
  • Responds promptly to guest comments, suggestions and complaints
  • Conducts thorough Event Pre-service meetings
  • Enforces accurate cash handling and money controls
  • Facilitates efficient use of food, labor and other resources
  • Completes administrative paperwork within set timelines
  • Takes initiative to complete tasks and solve problems
  • Proficient in all hourly positions and assists where needed
  • Provides hands-on management
  • Participates in coaching, counseling and disciplinary procedures
  • Enforces union and student attendance policies
  • Responsible for training staff on standards and procedures
  • Communicates with back of house daily
  • Adapts job duties to business needs
  • May be assigned to different operations when required
