Job Requirements
- Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Art or related field
- One year of relevant professional experience managing ceramics spaces
- Knowledge of ceramics principles and kiln operations
- Ability to handle kiln operations including loading, unloading, and maintenance
- Ability to ensure safe operations and monitor safety protocols
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends
Job Qualifications
- Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Art or related field
- One year of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for ceramics spaces
- Functional knowledge of ceramics principles, practices, and techniques
- Understanding of kiln operations and associated safety protocols
- Ability to recognize and solve problems related to ceramics and art classes
- Effective communication skills both oral and written
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Proficiency in operating personal computers
- Flexibility to work late evenings and weekends
- Experience with glaze chemistry and clay body reclamation is desired
- Experience working with diverse student populations is preferred
- Familiarity with ceramics curriculum and course schedules is a plus
Job Duties
- Work under the direct supervision of the Ceramics Discipline Coordinator and Art Discipline Coordinator
- Undergo necessary University of Hawai'i trainings as required by Leeward's Administrative Services
- Provide extended and after-hours surveillance during kiln preheat and firing cycles
- Load and unload kilns, clean and kiln-wash shelves using specialized knowledge to maximize space and prevent damage
- Maintain studio cleanliness, organization, clay reclamation, and equipment upkeep
- Manage raw material inventory and glaze mixing in the glaze lab
- Monitor student safety during open lab hours and provide demonstrations on basic ceramic techniques
- Perform other duties as assigned
