Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- experience with electronic dispatching systems preferred
- ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
- effective communication skills
- basic computer proficiency
- ability to learn and use radio communication equipment
- ability to sit for extended periods and perform occasional physical tasks such as lifting up to 25 pounds
- willingness to work overtime when required
Job Qualifications
- Proficient in English language communication both oral and written
- basic math skills for payroll and related calculations
- knowledgeable in computer skills including Windows, Word, and Excel
- familiar with general human resources functions and applicable EEO regulations
- experience using radio communication and dispatching systems
- ability to handle multiple tasks and maintain professionalism
- strong attention to detail and concentration
- ability to maintain logs accurately
Job Duties
- Utilize electronic dispatching and vessel tracking system to enter harbor activities and sailings
- schedule berthing of barges using the daily movement sheet
- communicate with tugs at sea using VHF, SSB, and NEXTEL radios or cellular phones
- prepare daily dispatch notification of vessel arrivals and departures
- maintain dispatch and radio logs of all important harbor and tug activities
- inform employees of vessel manning schedules and communicate job assignments and changes
- coordinate vessel refueling
- carry out company emergency procedures when necessary
- monitor and report unusual conditions around company areas after hours
- make vessel or crew dispatch decisions occasionally without management intervention
- perform other duties as directed by management
