Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • ability to attend classes as suggested by management
  • completion of Short Food Course I offered by Department of Education
  • ability to stand constantly during work shifts
  • ability to work with interruptions and diverse coworkers
  • occasional ability to climb ladders and lift weights up to 50 pounds
  • physical ability to push, pull, carry, and perform trunk rotation and squatting
  • ability to operate commercial kitchen cleaning equipment
  • ability to handle cleaning and sanitizing chemicals with appropriate protective equipment
  • frequent work in high temperature, humidity, and low ventilation environments
  • occasional work in cooler and freezer environments
  • physical dexterity to operate cleaning tools and equipment

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • experience in school food service operations preferred
  • completion of Short Food Course I required
  • able to communicate information orally and in writing
  • able to prioritize, organize, and accomplish assigned work
  • able to work independently or as part of a team
  • able to recognize problems and take appropriate action
  • able to take direction courteously
  • able to learn operation of food service equipment
  • aware of district policies and requirements

Job Duties

  • Organizes site work including setting up and tearing down serving lines and bars under direction of head cook
  • practices good nutrition in preparation and service of food
  • assists with serving food
  • works in dish room washing trays, silverware, and returns them to proper storage
  • washes pots and pans in three-compartment sink
  • operates French fryer
  • operates cash register, counts money, makes change, and makes out daily reports
  • assists in control of food and supply costs through proper handling and storage
  • communicates and works effectively with fellow employees
  • maintains good public relations with students, parents, faculty, and community
  • assists with catering if necessary
  • demonstrates regular and reliable attendance
