Job Requirements

  • high school education preferred with successful completion of apprenticeship or training program or equivalent experience
  • ability to calculate figures such as discounts, gross margins, percentages, and ratios
  • ability to complete required reports including daily sales, inventory counts, and cash reconciliation
  • ability to hear, speak and understand spoken words
  • ability to read, write, analyze and interpret English language
  • physical ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 pounds
  • ability to climb ladders and perform housekeeping duties
  • tolerance to dust, chemical fumes and work in refrigerated and heated environments
  • memory retention to memorize weekly ad prices and specials
  • compliance with company safety and security policies

Job Qualifications

  • high school education preferred with successful completion of an apprenticeship or training program or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • ability to calculate figures such as discounts, gross margins, percentages, and ratios
  • ability to handle sales transactions and tender change accurately
  • ability to complete daily sales reports, inventory counts, receiving logs, and cash reconciliation and audit forms accurately
  • ability to hear, speak and understand spoken word to respond to customer and co-worker requests
  • ability to read, write, analyze, interpret and understand English language to follow instructions and company policies
  • knowledge of customer service principles
  • basic math skills
  • familiarity with cash register and point-of-sale systems

Job Duties

  • Greet all customers and provide them with prompt and courteous service or assistance
  • adhere to all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations
  • responsible for cash drawer contents at the start and end of the work shift
  • maintain cashier accountability including over/shorts of till
  • scan or record the purchases of customers efficiently and accurately
  • be knowledgeable about different types of produce and assist customers with bulk products
  • collect money in cash or checks and tender accurate change in accordance with company policies
  • process various types of sales transactions including authorized accounts receivable sales, EFT, WIC coupons, food stamps, and gift certificates
  • bag or package merchandise according to company policy
  • handle damaged or spoiled products and return-to-stocks
  • ring all sales into cash register following cash handling procedures
  • verify all customer IDs and observe policies related to acceptance of checks and sale of alcoholic beverages
  • notify management promptly of any irregularities or discrepancies including cash variations exceeding $5
  • record price discrepancies and request price checks as necessary
  • maintain general housekeeping and sanitation standards
  • keep checkout, sales, and storage areas clean and orderly
  • use and maintain equipment in good working order and report malfunctions
  • adhere to policies on excessive cash in registers and perform cash pickups
  • observe security standards and report abnormal behavior
  • secure register when unattended and protect company assets
  • notify department manager of personnel or policy issues affecting store performance
  • perform any other work-related duties as assigned
  • assist in training associates and maintain good communication within the department and organization
  • comply with safety policies and procedures
  • maintain neat personal appearance and follow dress regulations
