Job Requirements

  • High school education preferred
  • successful completion of apprenticeship or training program or equivalent experience
  • ability to calculate discounts, margins, and percentages
  • ability to complete sales reports and inventory counts
  • ability to communicate effectively in English
  • ability to read and comprehend job-related documents
  • ability to handle cash responsibly
  • capable of lifting up to 50 pounds
  • able to stand and walk for extended periods
  • meet physical demands including climbing ladders, sweeping, mopping, and lifting
  • maintain personal grooming and adhere to dress code
  • comply with safety policies and procedures
  • able to work in refrigerated and heated environments
  • willing to respond to emergency situations
  • able to tolerate exposure to dust and cleaning chemicals
  • maintain memory retention for prices and specials
  • pass mandatory drug tests.

Job Qualifications

  • High school education preferred
  • successful completion of apprenticeship or training program desirable
  • equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable
  • ability to calculate figures such as discounts, gross margins, and percentages
  • ability to accurately complete required reports including sales and inventory counts
  • ability to hear, speak, and understand spoken word to respond to customer and co-worker requests
  • ability to read, write, analyze, and understand English instructions and company policies
  • good communication skills
  • knowledge of produce and grocery merchandise helpful.

Job Duties

  • Greet all customers and provide them with prompt and courteous service or assistance
  • adhere to all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations
  • maintain responsibility of cash drawer contents at the start and end of shift
  • ensure cashier accountability including over/shorts of till
  • scan or record purchases accurately and efficiently
  • be knowledgeable about produce varieties carried in the store
  • assist customers with bulk products
  • collect money and tender accurate change according to company policies
  • process various sales transactions including accounts receivable sales, EFT, WIC coupons, food stamps, manufacturer’s coupons, and gift certificates compliant with legal requirements
  • bag or package merchandise per company procedures
  • handle damaged or spoiled products and return-to-stocks
  • ring all sales in accordance with cash handling procedures
  • verify customer IDs and observe policies for checks and alcohol sales
  • promptly notify management of cash discrepancies exceeding $5 or store-established limits
  • record price discrepancies and request price checks
  • maintain housekeeping and sanitation standards compliant with health regulations
  • keep checkout, sales and storage areas clean and orderly
  • use and maintain equipment properly and report malfunctions
  • adhere to policies on cash limits and pickups
  • observe security standards and report suspicious behavior
  • secure register when unattended
  • notify management of personnel or policy issues affecting store performance
  • perform assigned work-related duties
  • assist in training associates and maintain good communication
  • comply with safety policies
  • maintain neat appearance and adhere to dress code.
