Job Requirements
- High school education preferred
- Successful completion of apprenticeship or training program or equivalent education and experience
- Ability to calculate figures and apply basic algebra for sales transactions and invoice verification
- Ability to complete daily sales and inventory reports accurately
- Ability to communicate effectively in English verbally and in writing
- Ability to maintain physical stamina for standing, lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders, and performing housekeeping duties
- Ability to work in refrigerated and heated environments
- No certificates or licenses required
Job Qualifications
- High school education preferred with completion of an apprenticeship or training program or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to calculate figures including discounts, gross margins, percentages, and ratios
- Capability to accurately complete daily sales reports, inventory counts, receiving logs, and cash accountability forms
- Proficient English language skills including reading, writing, analyzing, and understanding instructions and job-related documents
- Ability to hear, speak and understand spoken word for effective communication with customers and colleagues
- Strong attention to detail and ability to memorize weekly ad prices and daily produce specials
Job Duties
- Greet all customers and provide prompt and courteous service or assistance
- Adhere to all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations
- Be responsible for cash drawer contents at the start and end of work shifts
- Maintain cashier accountability including over/shorts of till
- Scan or record customer purchases efficiently and accurately
- Be knowledgeable of produce merchandise varieties and assist customers with bulk products
- Collect payment in cash or checks and tender accurate change according to company policies
- Process various types of sales transactions including accounts receivable sales, EFT transactions, WIC coupons, food stamps, manufacturer coupons, and gift certificates
- Bag or package merchandise following company policies
- Handle damaged or spoiled products and manage return-to-stock procedures
- Ring all sales into cash register as per company cash handling standards
- Verify customer IDs and enforce store policies for accepting checks and selling alcoholic beverages
- Report to management any discrepancies exceeding set cash variation limits
- Record price discrepancies and request price checks for items not on file
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in compliance with store policy and health regulations
- Keep checkout, sales and storage areas clean and orderly
- Use and maintain equipment properly and report malfunctions
- Follow company policy regarding cash limits and pickups
- Observe security standards and monitor customer behavior
- Secure register when unattended and protect company assets
- Notify department manager of personnel or policy issues affecting store operations
- Perform any additional assigned work duties
- Assist in training associates and maintain good departmental communications
- Comply with safety policies and maintain a neat, well-groomed appearance
