Job Requirements

  • high school education preferred with successful completion of an apprenticeship or training program or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • be able to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, gross margins, percentages, ratios, and apply concepts of basic algebra
  • be able to accurately complete required reports including daily sales reports, inventory counts, receiving logs, and cash accountability forms
  • ability to hear, speak and understand spoken word effectively
  • ability to read, write, analyze, interpret and understand English language sufficiently
  • be able to sit, stand, and use hands regularly
  • occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
  • have specific vision abilities to check IDs, checks, invoices and documents
  • able to climb ladders and perform cleaning duties
  • have physical agility to respond quickly to emergencies
  • tolerate exposure to fruits, vegetables, house plants and flowers
  • withstand dust and chemical fumes during housekeeping duties
  • work in refrigerated and heated environments
  • tolerate moderate noise levels

Job Qualifications

  • ability to hear, speak and understand spoken word to respond to pages, accommodate verbal customer requests, answer telephones and communicate effectively
  • ability to read, write, analyze, interpret and understand English sufficiently to operate equipment and understand job-related documents

Job Duties

  • Greet all customers and provide them with prompt and courteous service or assistance
  • adhere to all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations
  • responsibility of cash drawer contents in both the start and end of the actual work shift
  • cashier accountability including over/shorts of till
  • scan or record the purchases of a customer into a cash register efficiently and accurately
  • be knowledgeable in and able to recognize or differentiate between various types of produce merchandise
  • assist customers with bulk products
  • collect money in the form of cash or checks and tender accurate change
  • process all types of sales transactions including authorized Accounts Receivable sales, EFT transactions, WIC Coupons, Food Stamps, manufacturers' coupons, gift certificates
  • bag or package merchandise according to company policies
  • handle damaged or spoiled products and returns according to policy
  • ring all sales into cash register following cash handling procedures
  • verify customer IDs and observe policies regarding checks and alcohol sales
  • notify management promptly of any irregularities with cash exceeding established limits
  • record price discrepancies and request price checks
  • maintain general housekeeping and sanitation standards
  • assist in keeping checkout, sales and storage areas clean and orderly
  • use and maintain equipment in good working order and report issues
  • adhere to cash limit policies and perform cash pickups as required
  • observe security standards and report abnormal behavior
  • secure register when unattended
  • notify management of personnel or policy issues
  • perform other work-related duties as assigned
  • assist in training associates
  • maintain good communications within department and organization
  • comply with safety policies and procedures
  • maintain neat, well-groomed personal appearance and observe dress regulations
