Job Requirements
- High school education preferred
- Successful completion of apprenticeship or training program or equivalent experience
- Ability to calculate basic mathematical figures including discounts and ratios
- Proficiency in completing reports related to sales, inventory, and cash accountability
- Strong verbal communication skills to handle customer and coworker interactions
- Ability to read, write and understand English effectively
- Physical ability to stand, sit, lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders and work in various temperature environments
- Ability to work with fresh produce and tolerate dust and cleaning agents
- Maintain good memory skills
- Ability to comply with safety and personal appearance standards
Job Qualifications
- High school education preferred with successful completion of an apprenticeship/training program or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, gross margins, percentages, and apply basic algebra concepts
- Ability to accurately complete required reports including sales, inventory, receiving, and cash reconciliation
- Excellent verbal communication skills to respond promptly to customers and coworkers
- Proficient reading, writing, and comprehension skills in English to understand job-related documents and instructions
Job Duties
- Greet all customers and provide them with prompt and courteous service or assistance
- Adhere to all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations
- Manage cash drawer contents at the start and end of shifts responsibly
- Maintain cashier accountability including over/shorts of till
- Scan or record the purchases of a customer into a cash register efficiently and accurately
- Assist customers with bulk products that they may have difficulty handling
- Collect money in the form of cash or checks and tender accurate change following company policies
- Process various sales transactions including Accounts Receivable, EFT, WIC Coupons, Food Stamps, coupons, gift certificates
- Bag or package merchandise according to company policy
- Handle damaged or spoiled products and return to stock according to company policy
- Ring all sales into cash register per cash handling procedures
- Verify customer IDs and enforce store policies on checks and alcohol sales
- Report any irregularities or discrepancies in cash handling and operating results to management
- Record price discrepancies and request price checks on electronic POS terminals
- Maintain general housekeeping and sanitation standards in compliance with regulations
- Keep checkout, sales, and storage areas clean and orderly
- Use and maintain equipment properly and report malfunctions
- Adhere to policies on excessive cash in registers and perform cash pickups
- Observe security standards and report abnormal customer behavior
- Secure register when unattended to protect company assets
- Notify department manager of personnel issues or policy violations
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned
- Assist in training associates and maintain good communication
- Comply with safety policies and maintain a neat personal appearance
