Job Requirements

  • High school education preferred with apprenticeship/training or equivalent experience
  • ability to calculate sales figures and perform cash handling accurately
  • capability to complete daily sales and inventory reports
  • clear verbal communication skills
  • strong English literacy for understanding job-related documents
  • physical ability to sit, stand, use hands, lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, sweep, mop, dust, and carry trash
  • ability to work in refrigerated and heated environments
  • ability to tolerate dust and chemical fumes
  • sufficient memory retention for weekly and daily price specials
  • compliance with safety and grooming standards

Job Qualifications

  • High school education preferred with successful completion of an apprenticeship/training program or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • ability to calculate figures such as discounts, gross margins, percentages, and apply basic algebra concepts for sales transactions
  • capability to complete required reports including sales, inventory counts, receiving logs, and cash reconciliation
  • ability to hear, speak, and understand spoken word to respond promptly to pages and customer requests
  • proficiency in reading, writing, analyzing, and interpreting English to understand operating instructions, company policies, and job documents

Job Duties

  • Greet all customers and provide them with prompt and courteous service or assistance
  • adhere to all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations
  • responsibility of cash drawer contents in both the start and end of the actual work shift
  • cashier accountability including over/shorts of till
  • scan or record the purchases of a customer into a cash register efficiently and accurately
  • be knowledgeable in and able to recognize or differentiate between all the various types of produce merchandise carried in the store
  • assist customers with bulk products that they may have difficulty in handling
  • collect money in the form of cash or checks from customers and tender accurate change in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • process various sales transactions such as accounts receivable, EFT, WIC coupons, food stamps, manufacturer coupons, and gift certificates in compliance with company policies
  • bag or package merchandise according to company procedures
  • handle damaged or spoiled products and return to stocks according to policy
  • ring all sales into cash register following cash handling procedures
  • verify customer IDs and observe policies for acceptance of checks and sale of alcoholic beverages
  • notify management of any irregularities in cash handling exceeding set limits
  • record price discrepancies and request price checks as needed
  • maintain housekeeping and sanitation standards
  • assist in keeping checkout, sales, and storage areas clean and organized
  • use and maintain equipment and report malfunctions
  • adhere to policies for cash register security and cash pickups
  • observe security standards and report abnormal behavior
  • secure register when unattended
  • notify manager of personnel or policy issues
  • perform other work-related duties as assigned
  • assist in training associates
  • maintain good communication
  • comply with safety policies
  • maintain neat grooming and observe dress regulations
