Job Requirements

  • High school education preferred
  • successful completion of an apprenticeship or training program or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • ability to calculate figures such as discounts, gross margins, percentages, and ratios
  • ability to complete required reports accurately
  • ability to hear, speak and understand spoken word
  • ability to read, write, analyze, interpret and understand English with sufficient proficiency
  • able to sit, stand and use hands to handle objects and tools
  • able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • able to climb ladders and perform housekeeping tasks
  • able to tolerate dust and chemical fumes
  • able to work in refrigerated and heated environments
  • ability to memorize weekly ad prices and daily specials
  • compliant with all safety policies
  • maintain neat personal appearance and observe company dress regulations

Job Qualifications

  • High school education preferred
  • successful completion of an apprenticeship or training program
  • or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • ability to calculate figures such as discounts, margins, percentages, ratios, and apply basic algebra for sales transactions
  • ability to accurately complete required reports including sales, inventory, receiving logs, and cash reconciliation
  • ability to hear, speak, and understand spoken word to respond promptly to customers and colleagues
  • proficiency in reading, writing, analyzing, and understanding English to follow instructions, handbooks, policies, and other written job documents

Job Duties

  • Greet all customers and provide them with prompt and courteous service or assistance
  • adhere to all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations
  • responsibility of cash drawer contents in both the start and end of the actual work shift
  • cashier accountability including over and shorts of till
  • scan or record the purchases of a customer into a cash register efficiently and accurately
  • be knowledgeable in and able to recognize or differentiate between all the various types of produce merchandise carried in the store
  • assist customers with bulk products that they may have difficulty in handling
  • collect money in the form of cash or checks from customers and tender accurate change in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • process all types of sales transactions including authorized accounts receivable sales, EFT transactions, WIC coupons, food stamps, manufacturers' coupons, and gift certificates in strict accordance with company policies and legal requirements
  • bag or package merchandise according to company policies
  • handle damaged or spoiled products and return-to-stocks according to company policy
  • ring all sales into cash register in accordance with company cash handling procedures
  • verify all customer IDs and observe store policies pertaining to acceptance of checks and sale of alcoholic beverages
  • notify management promptly of any irregularities or discrepancies in operating results if cash variations exceed $5.00 or established level
  • record any price discrepancies and request price checks on items according to company policy
  • maintain general housekeeping and sanitation standards
  • assist in keeping all checkout, sales, and storage areas clean and orderly
  • use and maintain equipment in good working order and report any malfunctions
  • adhere to company policy on excessive cash in registers and perform cash pickups
  • observe security standards and report abnormal behavior
  • secure register when unattended to protect company assets
  • notify department manager of personnel or policy violations affecting store operations
  • perform any other work-related duties as assigned
  • assist in training associates and co-workers when directed
  • maintain good communication within the department and organization
  • comply with safety policies and procedures
  • maintain a neat and well-groomed personal appearance
  • observe company dress regulations
