Job Requirements

  • High school education preferred
  • Successful completion of an apprenticeship or training program or equivalent experience
  • Be able to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts and percentages
  • Be able to complete required reports accurately
  • Ability to hear, speak and understand spoken word
  • Ability to read, write and understand English language
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to stand and sit for extended periods
  • Ability to work in refrigerated and heated environments
  • Ability to handle fresh produce and cleaning agents without allergic reactions
  • Ability to respond quickly to emergencies
  • Sufficient memory retention for weekly pricing specials
  • Maintain a neat personal appearance

Job Qualifications

  • High school education preferred

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience accepted
  • Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, gross margins, and percentages
  • Ability to complete required reports including daily sales and inventory counts
  • Ability to hear, speak and understand spoken word to respond to customers and communicate
  • Ability to read, write, analyze and understand English for instructions and company policies

Job Duties

  • Greet all customers and provide them with prompt and courteous service or assistance
  • Adhere to all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations
  • Responsibility of cash drawer contents in both the start and end of the actual work shift
  • Cashier accountability including over/shorts of till
  • Scan or record the purchases of a customer into a cash register efficiently and accurately
  • Be knowledgeable in and able to recognize or differentiate between all the various types of produce merchandise
  • Assist customers with bulk products that they may have difficulty in handling
  • Collect money in the form of cash or checks from customers and tender accurate change
  • Process all of the various types of sales transactions including Accounts Receivable sales, EFT transactions, WIC Coupons, Food Stamps, manufacturers' coupons, gift certificates
  • Bag or package merchandise according to company policies and procedures
  • Handle damaged or spoiled products and return to stocks according to company policy
  • Ring all sales into cash register in accordance with company cash handling procedures
  • Verify all customer IDs and observe store policies on acceptance of checks and sale of alcoholic beverages
  • Notify management of any irregularities or discrepancies in cash handling
  • Record price discrepancies and request price checks on electronic point-of-sale terminals
  • Maintain general housekeeping and sanitation standards
  • Assist in keeping all checkout, sales and storage areas clean and organized
  • Use and maintain equipment in good working order
  • Adhere to company policy on excessive cash in registers and perform cash pickups
  • Observe security standards and report abnormal customer behavior
  • Secure register when unattended
  • Notify department manager of personnel or policy issues affecting store performance
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned
  • Assist in training associates and coworkers
  • Maintain good communications within the organization
  • Comply with safety policies and procedures
  • Maintain a neat, well-groomed appearance and observe company dress regulations
