Job Requirements
- High school education preferred
- successful completion of apprenticeship or training program or equivalent experience
- ability to perform basic algebra and calculate sales transaction amounts
- ability to complete accurate daily sales and inventory reports
- ability to communicate effectively in English
- physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- ability to climb ladders and perform physical tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting and carrying trash
- tolerance for moderate dust and chemical fumes
- ability to memorize weekly and daily product prices
- availability to work in temperatures ranging from freezing to heated environments
- compliance with drug testing policies
- eligibility to work in the United States
Job Qualifications
- High school education preferred
- successful completion of apprenticeship or training program or equivalent combination of education and experience
- ability to calculate figures such as discounts, gross margins, percentages and ratios
- skill in completing reports including daily sales, inventory counts, receiving logs, and cash reconciliation forms
- ability to hear, speak and understand spoken word clearly
- proficiency in reading, writing, analyzing and interpreting English instructions and documents
- strong customer service and communication skills
- ability to follow company policies and procedures
- teamwork and training skills
- attention to detail and accuracy in cash handling
- knowledge of safety and sanitation standards
Job Duties
- Greet all customers and provide them with prompt and courteous service or assistance
- adhere to all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations
- responsibility of cash drawer contents in both the start and end of the actual work shift
- cashier accountability including over/shorts of till
- scan or record the purchases of a customer into a cash register efficiently and accurately
- be knowledgeable in and able to recognize or differentiate between various types of produce merchandise
- assist customers with bulk products
- collect money from customers and tender accurate change according to company policies
- process various types of sales transactions including accounts receivable sales, EFT transactions, WIC coupons, food stamps, manufacturer coupons, and gift certificates
- bag or package merchandise according to company policies
- handle damaged or spoiled products and return to stocks according to company policy
- ring all sales into cash register in accordance with cash handling procedures
- verify all customer IDs and observe store policies on checks and alcohol sales
- notify management promptly of irregularities in cash handling beyond established thresholds
- record price discrepancies and request price checks
- maintain housekeeping and sanitation standards regularly
- assist in keeping checkout, sales and storage areas clean and in good order
- use and maintain equipment properly and report malfunctions
- adhere to company policy on cash limits and perform cash pickups
- observe security standards and report abnormal behavior
- secure register when unattended and protect company assets
- notify department manager of personnel or policy issues affecting store performance
- perform other work-related duties as assigned
- assist in training associates and coworkers
- maintain good communication in the department and organization
- comply with safety policies and procedures
- maintain a neat and well-groomed appearance and follow dress regulations
