Job Requirements

  • High school education preferred with successful completion of an apprenticeship or training program
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, gross margins, percentages, and apply basic algebra
  • Ability to complete required reports including daily sales reports, inventory counts, receiving logs, and cash reconciliation
  • Ability to hear, speak and understand spoken word
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend English language instructions and documents
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Able to work in refrigerated and high temperature environments
  • Able to climb ladders and perform housekeeping tasks
  • Able to work with fresh fruits, vegetables and plants without allergic reactions
  • Able to tolerate dust and chemical fumes
  • Physical agility to respond to emergencies
  • Able to maintain personal grooming and dress according to company standards

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to read, write, analyze and interpret English language documents and instructions
  • Experience working in retail or customer service environments preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams and follow company policies and procedures

Job Duties

  • Greet all customers and provide them with prompt and courteous service or assistance
  • Adhere to all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations
  • Responsibility of cash drawer contents in both the start and end of the actual work shift
  • Cashier accountability including over/shorts of till
  • Scan or record the purchases of a customer into a cash register efficiently and accurately
  • Be knowledgeable in and able to recognize or differentiate between all the various types of produce merchandise carried in the store
  • Assist customers with bulk products that they may have difficulty in handling
  • Collect money in the form of cash or checks from customers and tender accurate change in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • Process all types of sales transactions including Accounts Receivable sales, EFT transactions, WIC Coupons, Food Stamps, manufacturers' coupons, gift certificates, etc.
  • Bag or package merchandise according to established company policies
  • Handle damaged or spoiled products and return to stocks (gobacks) according to company policy
  • Ring all sales into cash register in accordance with company cash handling procedures
  • Verify all customer IDs and observe store policies for acceptance of checks and sale of alcoholic beverages
  • Notify management promptly of any irregularities or discrepancies in operating results especially if cash variations exceed $5 or the established level
  • Record price discrepancies and request price checks on not on file items promptly
  • Maintain general housekeeping and sanitation standards in compliance with store policies and health regulations
  • Assist in keeping checkout, sales, and storage areas clean and organized
  • Use and maintain equipment in good working order and report any problems immediately
  • Adhere to company policy on excessive cash in registers and perform cash pickups as required
  • Observe security standards and report abnormal behavior
  • Secure register when unattended and protect company assets
  • Notify department manager of personnel or policy violations
  • Perform any other assigned work-related duties
  • Assist in training associates and coworkers when directed
  • Maintain good communications within the department and the organization
  • Comply with safety policies and procedures
  • Maintain a neat, well-groomed personal appearance and observe company dress regulations
