Job Requirements
- High school education preferred
- Successful completion of apprenticeship or training program, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, gross margins, percentages, ratios and apply basic algebra concepts
- Ability to accurately complete required reports including daily sales and inventory counts
- Ability to hear, speak and understand spoken word
- Ability to read, write, analyze, interpret and understand English
- Ability to sit, stand, use hands regularly
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Ability to climb ladders and perform housekeeping tasks
- Ability to work in refrigerated and heated environments
- Ability to tolerate dust and chemical fumes
- Ability to memorize ads and product specials
Job Qualifications
- High school education preferred with successful completion of apprenticeship or training program
- Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable
- Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, gross margins, percentages and ratios
- Ability to complete reports including daily sales, inventory, receiving logs and cash accountability forms
- Strong verbal communication skills to respond to customer requests and pages
- Proficiency in reading, writing, analyzing, and understanding English language
Job Duties
- Greet all customers and provide them with prompt and courteous service or assistance
- Adhere to all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations
- Manage cash drawer contents at the start and end of shifts
- Maintain cashier accountability including handling over and short tills
- Scan or record the purchases of customers accurately and efficiently
- Recognize and differentiate between various types of produce and merchandise
- Assist customers with bulk products or items they have difficulty handling
- Collect payments including cash, checks, and WIC coupons and tender accurate change
- Process various sales transaction types in accordance with company policies
- Bag or package merchandise according to company standards
- Handle damaged, spoiled products and return-to-stocks as per company procedures
- Ring all sales into the cash register following cash handling protocols
- Verify customer IDs and follow store policies on checks and alcohol sales
- Report any cash discrepancies or irregularities to management promptly
- Record price discrepancies or "not on file" items and request price checks
- Maintain housekeeping and sanitation standards regularly
- Keep checkout, sales, and storage areas clean and orderly
- Use and maintain equipment properly and report malfunctions
- Adhere to company policies regarding cash limits and pickups
- Observe security standards by monitoring customers and reporting suspicious behavior
- Secure register when unattended to protect company assets
- Report personnel or policy violations to department manager
- Perform other assigned work-related duties
- Assist in training associates and co-workers when directed
- Maintain effective communication throughout the department and organization
- Comply with company safety policies and procedures
- Maintain a neat and well-groomed personal appearance according to company dress code
