Job Requirements
- High school education preferred
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, gross margins and apply basic algebra
- Ability to complete reports accurately
- Ability to hear, speak and understand spoken word
- Ability to read, write and understand English
- Ability to stand and sit regularly and use hands
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Ability to climb ladders and perform housekeeping duties
- Ability to tolerate dust and cleaning agent fumes
- Ability to work in refrigerated and heated environments
- Ability to memorize weekly ad prices and specials
- Pass pre-employment drug test
Job Qualifications
- High school education preferred
- Successful completion of an apprenticeship or training program preferred
- Equivalent combination of education and experience considered
- Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, margins, ratios, and apply basic algebra for transactions
- Ability to accurately complete reports including sales, inventory, receiving, and cash reconciliation
- Good communication skills including ability to hear, speak, and understand spoken word
- Proficiency in reading, writing, analyzing and interpreting English language for instructions, policies, and procedures
Job Duties
- Greet all customers and provide them with prompt and courteous service or assistance
- Adhere to all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations
- Responsibility of cash drawer contents at start and end of work shift
- Maintain cashier accountability including over/shorts of till
- Scan or record the purchases of customers efficiently and accurately
- Be knowledgeable in produce merchandise including differentiating types and varieties
- Assist customers with bulk products
- Collect payments in cash or checks and tender accurate change
- Process various sales transactions including Accounts Receivable, EFT, WIC Coupons, Food Stamps, manufacturer coupons, and gift certificates
- Bag or package merchandise according to company policies
- Handle damaged or spoiled products and return to stocks as per policy
- Ring all sales into cash register following cash handling procedures
- Verify customer IDs and follow policies for acceptance of checks and sale of alcoholic beverages
- Notify management of cash discrepancies exceeding $5 or established levels
- Record price discrepancies and request price checks on unlisted items
- Maintain housekeeping and sanitation standards
- Assist in keeping checkout, sales and storage areas clean and orderly
- Use and maintain equipment, reporting problems immediately
- Adhere to cash pickup and register security policies
- Observe security standards and report abnormal behavior
- Secure register when unattended to protect company assets
- Notify management of personnel or policy issues affecting performance
- Perform additional work-related duties as assigned
- Assist in training associates
- Maintain communication within department
- Comply with safety policies and procedures
- Maintain neat, well-groomed personal appearance per dress code standards
