Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • One year of prior retail or related experience preferred
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Ability to interact politely and effectively with customers
  • Good customer service and organizational skills
  • Detail-oriented
  • Basic reading, writing and arithmetic skills
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently
  • Ability to work in a retail store environment with varied temperatures and noise levels
  • Must comply with company cash handling and safety policies

Job Duties

  • Operate cash register and electronic scanner to itemize customer purchases
  • Process financial transactions including cash, checks, credit cards, food stamps, WIC, loyalty cards, gift certificates, rain checks, voids, and coupons
  • Weigh and carefully bag customer purchases
  • Understand use of check-stand equipment such as register, scanner, scale, belts and its efficient operation
  • Responsible for front-end duties such as merchandising check-stand items like newspapers, periodicals, candy
  • Ensure proper use of product identification and corresponding PLUs
  • Report errors in pricing or signage
  • Maintain understanding of current store programs and product locations
  • Communicate company programs, in-store specials and coupons to customers
  • Comply with company policies regarding security, cash handling, product handling, sale of alcohol and tobacco products
  • Maintain a clean and well-stocked department
  • Assist with stocking items as needed
  • Follow all PPE and safety guidelines
  • Follow food safety and cleaning expectations
  • Follow guest experience guidelines
  • Perform tasks in other departments based on customer experience needs
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned
