Job Requirements

  • high school graduate or equivalent
  • six months experience in food service or related area
  • ability to operate cash register
  • strong customer service skills
  • ability to perform cleaning and stocking duties
  • good communication skills
  • capability to handle money accurately
  • maintain confidentiality
  • willingness to work evenings, weekends and holidays
  • physical ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • follow department policies and procedures
  • complete required training

Job Qualifications

  • six months experience as food service assistant, cashier or customer service
  • familiarity with cash handling procedures

Job Duties

  • maintains customer check-out line
  • operates cash register
  • itemizes and totals customer purchases
  • collects money and issues correct change and receipts
  • answers cafeteria phone lines
  • compares totals on cash register receipts with amount of cash in register to verify shift balances
  • prepares coffee, tea and frozen desserts in the check-out line
  • stocks flatware and condiment areas
  • completes specified cleaning assignments including dining rooms, soiled dishes and trash removal
  • opens and closes cafeteria in absence of manager
  • receives money from the safe and complies with department cash handling procedures
  • interacts and works collaboratively with customers and hospital staff in a courteous manner
  • assists personnel to keep department operating at peak efficiency
  • maintains required department records, reports and files
  • adheres to established department policies and procedures
  • maintains a clean, orderly and safe environment
  • cleans and assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and utensils
  • disposes of trash and garbage by transporting to disposal area
  • maintains confidentiality relating to patient, family and hospital information
  • provides coverage for relief and absences within department
  • demonstrates flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays
  • completes required continuous training and education
