Job Requirements

  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • able to work varied shifts including nights weekends and holidays
  • able to perform friendly courteous and tactful relations with customers and coworkers
  • able to communicate effectively including hearing and speech
  • able to complete written forms
  • able to conduct visual inspection and read merchandise information
  • able to lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
  • able to operate check stand equipment such as cash registers scanners and scales
  • able to stand or sit for long periods walk rapidly bend stoop twist and turn frequently
  • manual dexterity and good hand eye coordination
  • able to learn and memorize a considerable amount of information including PLU codes product locations and company policies
  • able to ensure accuracy in scanning verifying sales and handling monetary transactions with mental alertness and basic math skills
  • able to occasionally use blades for box cutting
  • able to maintain work area cleanliness using approved household cleaners
  • able to navigate and manage high stress situations and unsatisfied customers
  • compliance with as required state and local laws for food safety handlers cards tobacco and alcohol sales certification such as TAM card

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • previous customer service or retail experience preferred
  • ability to communicate effectively with customers and coworkers
  • basic math skills including addition subtraction multiplication and division
  • ability to operate check stand equipment such as cash registers scanners and scales
  • strong manual dexterity and hand eye coordination
  • ability to learn and memorize product location PLU codes and company policies
  • capacity to work in a fast paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • ability to follow policies regarding cash handling and sales of restricted items

Job Duties

  • Seek opportunities to welcome engage serve and thank customers
  • maintain an atmosphere of friendly enthusiastic customer service with emphasis on taking care of the customer
  • operate check stand equipment such as a cash register scanner and scale to process customer orders using two aisles
  • engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
  • process monetary transactions including cash checks gift certificates travelers checks food stamps coupons and refunds adhering to cash handling and lane accountability policies
  • maintain knowledge of current product location monitor UPC codes and ensure proper pricing
  • maintain clean neat and properly stocked check stand and ensure safe and secure work area
  • stock price and rotate merchandise
  • may be assigned to multi station self checkout lane as needed
  • may be assigned to customer service counter as needed
  • perform other duties as assigned
  • follow all state and federal laws concerning sale of restricted or regulated items such as tobacco and alcohol
  • adhere to USDA food stamp and WIC voucher procedures
  • regularly move within SCO area to expedite transactions maintain attentive presence and keep area clear of safety hazards
  • initiate and engage contact with customers at self checkout kiosks
  • respond to SCO stations to review address and clear alerts and errors with customer transactions
  • monitor multiple simultaneous transactions and verify payment in a fast paced setting
  • actively engage with customers to assist transactions ensure accuracy and limit shrinkage
  • maintain high level of awareness of self checkout area and customers anticipate customer needs monitor transaction activity
  • prioritize safety of employees and customers by addressing or reporting concerns per company policy
