Job Requirements
- No formal education required
- Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force frequently and up to 10 pounds constantly
- Ability to perform physical activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
- Must have vision capabilities including near and far vision, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Must be punctual and reliable
- Subject to successful completion of pre-employment drug screen
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and sometimes physically demanding environment
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Experience in customer service or retail is beneficial but not required
- Ability to operate a cash register and handle transactions accurately
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Basic arithmetic skills to handle money and calculate discounts
- Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions
- Strong attention to detail and customer focus
- Team player attitude
- Willingness to learn and adapt
- Knowledge of store policies and procedures is a plus
Job Duties
- Provide prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience
- Smile and greet customers in a friendly manner
- Learn customers' names and address them by name
- Assist customers by escorting them to products, securing out-of-reach items, loading or unloading heavy items, noting and passing along suggestions, enhancing shopping experience
- Answer telephone promptly and provide helpful service
- Work as a team with co-workers to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment
- Operate cash register accurately and scan products
- Redeem promotional coupons, food stamps, WIC checks, issue rain checks, receive cash and checks, complete credit-card transactions, figure discounts, count back change and issue receipts
- Place merchandise in bags or boxes and assist courtesy personnel
- Answer customer questions and concerns and follow-up with appropriate personnel
- Understand and follow policies on sales of tobacco, liquor, and lottery tickets
- Ensure compliance with guidelines regarding WIC and food stamps
- Know value, look-up numbers, department numbers, and item features
- Stock, face, rotate merchandise, clean shelves, know merchandise location
- Perceive surroundings for customer needs and store safety
- Communicate clearly on intercom or telephone
- Review weekly store ad for price changes and sales
- Maintain clean register area and adequate supplies
- Compare cash register totals with currency to verify balances
- Give cash refunds or issue credit memorandums for returns
- Practice proper sanitation and maintain clean work area
- Adhere to personal hygiene and dress guidelines
- Report to work on time and as scheduled
- Assist store management with displays and events
- Know code dates on perishables and explain to customers
- Change register tape and ribbons
- Assist in other store areas as needed
- Perform other job-related duties and special projects as required
