Job Requirements
- Be 16 years of age or older
- Ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
- Ability to communicate effectively including hearing and speech
- Ability to complete written forms
- Ability to perform visual inspections and read product information
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods, walk rapidly, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently
- Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
- Ability to memorize a considerable amount of information including product location and PLU codes
- Ability to ensure accuracy in scanning and handling monetary transactions
- Ability to occasionally use blades for box cutting
- Ability to use household cleaners to maintain work area
- Ability to maintain composure and tact in high stress or high volume situations
- Must comply with state and local laws for food safety, tobacco, and alcohol sales certifications
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous customer service experience preferred
- Ability to operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and scales
- Strong communication skills
- Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Ability to learn and memorize product codes and company policies
- Ability to handle cash and complete transactions accurately
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to engage customers with a friendly and courteous demeanor
Job Duties
- Seeks opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
- Maintains an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with an emphasis on taking care of the customer
- Operates check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and scales to process customer orders at two aisles
- Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
- Processes monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, coupons, food stamps and refunds with adherence to cash handling policies
- Maintains knowledge of product locations, monitors UPC codes, and ensures proper pricing
- Maintains clean, neat and properly stocked check stands, ensuring a safe and secure work area
- Stocks, prices, and rotates merchandise
- May be assigned to self-checkout lanes or the customer service counter as needed
- Follows state and federal laws concerning the sale of restricted items such as tobacco and alcohol
- Adheres to USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
- Regularly moves within the self-checkout area to expedite transactions and address customer needs
- Responds to alerts and errors in self-checkout transactions
- Monitors multiple simultaneous transactions in a fast-paced environment
- Actively engages with customers at self-checkout kiosks to assist and ensure transaction accuracy
- Prioritizes safety by identifying or reporting hazards according to company policy
