Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- previous cashier or retail experience preferred
- ability to stand for extended periods
- basic math skills
- customer service experience
- ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish
- ability to operate cash register and related equipment
- dependable and punctual
- good physical stamina to handle lifting up to 20 pounds and long hours on feet
- willingness to work afternoons, holidays and weekends
Job Qualifications
- Ability to read, write and speak English and Spanish preferred
- ability to understand and follow instructions in both English and Spanish preferred
- excellent interpersonal skills
- ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in one-on-one and small group situations
- good mathematical skills
- ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram form
- ability to use computer, cash register and lottery, money order machines
- ability to use 10-key adding machine
- takes responsibility for own actions
- ability to work scheduled hours including holidays and weekends
- strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness
Job Duties
- Politely greet customers with a smile and provide excellent customer service
- attend to customers' needs calling for manager or supervisor when necessary
- promptly scan products or weigh produce being purchased
- operate cash register accurately and efficiently accepting all forms of payment and provide correct change
- maintain cash drawer with sufficient currency and coins
- count out cash drawer at the beginning and end of a shift
- conduct price checks when necessary
- place items in bags for customers and assist with loading into shopping cart
- return discarded items back to shelves when necessary
- keep the conveyor belt, scanner, scale and counter clean
- assist with keeping the front of the store clean, organized, and free from safety hazards
- straighten out displays and shelves of merchandise when requested
- attend and participate in store or department meetings
- ensure punctuality and good attendance
- perform other work-related duties as required
- serve as bagger or facing clerk when necessary
- add or change paper in registers and related equipment
- report any equipment malfunctions to manager
- gather shopping carts when needed
- assist manager on duty in other departments when needed
