Job Requirements

  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • able to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays in a 24/7 operation
  • able to stand or sit for long periods, walk quickly, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently
  • able to lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • able to communicate effectively in hearing and speech
  • able to complete written forms
  • able to conduct visual inspections and read information on merchandise
  • able to operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners and scales
  • manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
  • ability to learn and memorize significant information including PLU codes and company policies
  • accuracy in handling monetary transactions with basic math skills
  • able to handle potentially high stress customer interactions with composure
  • ability to occasionally use blades for box cutting
  • able to use household cleaners to maintain work area
  • able to perform primary duties efficiently and accurately
  • ability to prioritize safety and address or report concerns
  • food safety/handlers cards, tobacco and alcohol sales certification as required by state and local laws

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • experience in retail or customer service helpful but not required
  • ability to operate cash register and related equipment
  • basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • strong communication skills including hearing and speech
  • ability to perform friendly, courteous and tactful customer relations
  • ability to handle monetary transactions with mental alertness
  • manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
  • ability to learn and memorize product location, PLU codes, check stand and keyboard procedures and company policies
  • ability to maintain composure and deal with high stress situations
  • knowledge of state and federal laws regarding restricted items beneficial

Job Duties

  • Seeks opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
  • maintains an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with an emphasis on taking care of the customer
  • operates check stand equipment such as a cash register, scanner and scale to process customer orders using two aisles to check customers
  • engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
  • processes monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, travelers checks, food stamps, coupon processing, and refunds
  • maintains knowledge of current product location, monitors UPC codes and ensures proper pricing
  • maintains clean, neat and properly stocked check stand and ensures safe and secure work area
  • stocks, prices and rotates merchandise
  • may be assigned to a multi-station self-checkout lane as needed
  • may be assigned to the customer service counter as needed
  • performs other duties as assigned or needed
  • follows all state and federal laws concerning the sale of any restricted or regulated items such as tobacco and alcohol
  • adheres to all United States Department of Agriculture Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
  • regularly moves within SCO area to expedite transactions, maintain attentive presence and keep area clear of safety hazards
  • initiates and engages contact with customers as they process their transactions
  • responds to SCO stations to accurately review, address and clear alerts and/or errors with customer transactions
  • monitors multiple simultaneous transactions and verifies payment in fast paced setting
  • actively and routinely engages with customers at self-checkout kiosks to assist in transactions, ensure accuracy, and limit shrinkage
  • maintains a high level of awareness of the self-checkout area and customers
  • anticipates customer needs, monitors transaction activity, makes regular eye contact with customers, observes bottom of the basket
  • prioritizes safety of employees and customers by addressing or reporting concerns as provided by Company policy
