Job Requirements
- Ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation including nights, weekends and holidays
- perform friendly, courteous, tactful relations with customers and co-workers with composure
- communicate (hearing and speech) to perform customer relation tasks
- complete written forms
- conduct visual inspection and read information on merchandise
- lift and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
- operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and scales
- stand or sit for long periods, walk rapidly, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently for long periods
- must be 16 years of age or older
- manual dexterity and good hand/eye coordination
- learn and memorize significant amounts of information including PLU codes, product locations, check stand procedures and company policies
- ensure accuracy in scanning and verifying sales and handling monetary transactions with mental alertness and basic math skills
- occasionally use blades for box cutting
- use household cleaners to maintain work area
- perform primary duties efficiently and accurately
- navigate and manage potentially high stress situations with volatile or unsatisfied customers and high volume of transactions and customers
- as required by applicable state and local laws, food safety/handlers cards, tobacco and alcohol sales certification (e.g., TAM card)
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- previous customer service experience is beneficial
- basic math skills including adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing
- effective communication skills including hearing and speech to perform customer relations tasks
- ability to follow company policies and procedures
- ability to memorize product codes, locations, and pricing procedures
- familiarity with check stand equipment operation
- ability to work independently and as part of a team
- capability to handle multiple tasks efficiently
- comfortable with point-of-sale technology
- experience in cash handling and transaction processing
- ability to maintain composure in high-volume, high-stress environments
Job Duties
- Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
- maintain an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with an emphasis on taking care of the customer
- operate check stand equipment such as a cash register, scanner and scale to process customer orders using two aisles
- engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
- process monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, travelers checks, food stamps, processing coupons, and refunds adhering to all cash handling and lane accountability policies
- maintain knowledge of current product location, monitor UPC codes and ensure proper pricing
- maintain clean, neat and properly stocked check stand and ensure safe and secure work area
- stock, price and rotate merchandise
- may be assigned to a multi-station self-checkout lane as needed
- may be assigned to the customer service counter as needed
- perform other duties as assigned or needed
- follow all state and federal laws concerning the sale of restricted or regulated items such as tobacco and alcohol
- adhere to all USDA food stamp or WIC voucher procedures
- regularly move within SCO area to expedite transactions, maintain attentive presence and keep area clear of safety hazards
- initiate and engage contact with customers as they process their transactions
- respond to SCO stations to accurately review, address and clear alerts and/or errors with customer transactions
- monitor multiple simultaneous transactions and verify payment in fast paced setting
- actively and routinely engage with customers at self-checkout kiosks to assist in transactions, ensure accuracy, and limit shrinkage
- maintain a high level of awareness of the self-checkout area and customers
- prioritize safety of employees and customers by addressing or reporting concerns as provided by company policy
