Job Requirements
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation, including nights, weekends and holidays
- Ability to maintain friendly, courteous, and tactful relations with customers and co-workers with composure
- Ability to communicate effectively with hearing and speech
- Ability to complete written forms
- Ability to conduct visual inspections and read information on merchandise
- Ability to lift and maneuver objects frequently up to 20 lbs and occasionally up to 50 lbs
- Ability to operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and scales
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods, walk rapidly, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently for long periods
- Manual dexterity and good hand/eye coordination
- Ability to learn and memorize information including PLU codes, product location, and company policies
- Mental alertness and basic math skills for accuracy in scanning and verifying sales and handling money
- Ability to occasionally use blades for box cutting
- Ability to use household cleaners to maintain work area
- Ability to navigate high stress situations and manage volatile customers as well as high volume of transactions
- Compliance with applicable state and local laws for food safety/handlers cards, tobacco and alcohol sales certifications
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous experience in retail or customer service is advantageous
- Ability to operate cash registers, scanners, and scale equipment
- Basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to handle monetary transactions with accuracy
- Knowledge of product locations and pricing procedures is beneficial
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as standing for long periods and lifting up to 50 lbs
- Ability to learn and memorize company policies, procedures, and PLU codes
- Compliance with state and local laws regarding food safety and sales of restricted items
Job Duties
- Seeks opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
- Maintains an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with emphasis on taking care of the customer
- Operates check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners and scales to process customer orders
- Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
- Processes monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, coupons, and refunds
- Maintains knowledge of current product location, monitors UPC codes and ensures proper pricing
- Maintains clean, neat and properly stocked check stand and ensures safe and secure work area
- Stocks, prices, and rotates merchandise
- May be assigned to multi station self-checkout lanes or customer service counters as needed
- Follows all state and federal laws concerning the sale of restricted or regulated items like tobacco and alcohol
- Adheres to USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
- Regularly moves within self-checkout area to expedite transactions and maintain safety
- Initiates contact with customers and responds to alerts and errors at self-checkout stations
- Monitors multiple simultaneous transactions and ensures accuracy
- Engages routinely with customers to assist in transactions and limit shrinkage
- Maintains high awareness of self-checkout area and anticipates customer needs
- Prioritizes safety by addressing or reporting concerns according to company policy
