Job Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years old
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods
- Ability to walk rapidly, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently
- Ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Ability to operate cash registers, scanners, and scales
- Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
- Ability to communicate via hearing and speech
- Ability to complete written forms
- Ability to conduct visual inspection and read merchandise information
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately
- Ability to learn and memorize considerable information including PLU codes and company policies
- Ability to ensure accuracy in scanning and monetary transactions
- Ability to handle stressful situations and dissatisfied customers calmly
- Ability to use household cleaners for maintaining work areas
- Work varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Food safety/handlers card and tobacco or alcohol sales certification as required by state and local laws
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous customer service or retail experience beneficial
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
- Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Ability to learn product locations, PLU codes and company policies
- Friendly and personable demeanor
- Ability to use check stand equipment proficiently including cash registers and scanners
- Ability to work flexible shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Understanding of customer service principles and sales techniques
- Ability to handle cash and perform transactions accurately
- Ability to engage with a diverse customer base
Job Duties
- Welcomes, engages, serves and thanks customers maintaining a friendly customer service atmosphere
- Operates check stand equipment such as cash register, scanner and scale to process customer orders
- Engages in suggestive selling and sales techniques
- Processes monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, food stamps, coupons and refunds adhering to cash handling policies
- Maintains knowledge of product location, monitors UPC codes and ensures proper pricing
- Maintains clean, stocked and safe work areas
- Stocks, prices and rotates merchandise
- Assists in self-checkout lane monitoring and customer assistance
- Performs customer service desk duties as assigned
- Follows all state and federal laws for restricted items
- Adheres to USDA Food Stamp and WIC procedures
- Regularly monitors and assists at self-checkout stations to expedite transactions and ensure accuracy
- Responds promptly to errors and alerts at SCO stations
- Actively engages customers at self-checkout to reduce shrinkage
- Prioritizes safety by reporting concerns
- Performs other duties as assigned
