Job Requirements
- must be 16 years of age or older
- ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
- ability to stand or sit for long periods and perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping and lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally
- ability to communicate effectively including hearing and speech
- ability to complete written forms
- manual dexterity and good hand eye coordination
- ability to learn and memorize information such as PLU codes, product locations and company policies
- ability to handle mental math like adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing
- ability to use cash registers, scanners and scales
- ability to work under pressure and handle high volume of transactions and customers
- valid food safety/handlers card and tobacco/alcohol sales certification as required by local laws
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- seeks opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
- maintains an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with an emphasis on taking care of the customer
- operates check stand equipment such as cash register, scanner and scale to process customer orders using two aisles to check customers
- engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
- processes monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, traveler's checks, food stamps, coupons and refunds
- maintains knowledge of current product location, monitors UPC codes and ensures proper pricing
- maintains clean, neat and properly stocked check stand and ensures safe and secure work area
- stocks, prices and rotates merchandise
- may be assigned to a multi station self-checkout lane as needed
- may be assigned to the customer service counter as needed
- performs other duties as assigned or needed
- follows all state and federal laws concerning the sale of any restricted or regulated items
- adheres to all United States Department of Agriculture Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
- regularly moves within SCO area to expedite transactions, maintain attentive presence and keep area clear of safety hazards
- initiates and engages contact with customers as they process their transactions
- responds to SCO stations to accurately review, address and clear alerts and/or errors with customer transactions
- monitors multiple simultaneous transactions and verifies payment in fast paced setting
- actively and routinely engages with customers at self-checkout kiosks to assist in transactions, ensure accuracy and limit shrinkage
- maintains a high level of awareness of the self-checkout area and customers
- anticipates customer needs, monitors transaction activity, makes regular eye contact with customers, observes bottom of the basket, etc.
- prioritizes safety of employees and customers by addressing or reporting concerns as provided by company policy
