Job Requirements

  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • Ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to perform friendly, courteous and tactful relations with customers and co-workers
  • Ability to communicate effectively through hearing and speech
  • Ability to complete written forms
  • Ability to conduct visual inspection and read merchandise information
  • Ability to lift and maneuver objects weighing up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners and scales
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods, walk rapidly, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently
  • Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to memorize and learn extensive information including PLU codes and company policies
  • Basic mental alertness and math skills
  • Ability to occasionally use blades for box cutting
  • Ability to maintain work area cleanliness using approved cleaners
  • Ability to navigate high stress situations and manage high volume of transactions and customers
  • Compliance with applicable food safety, tobacco and alcohol sales certifications as required by law

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous retail or customer service experience a plus but not required
  • Ability to operate cash register, scanner and scale equipment
  • Strong communication skills
  • Basic math skills for handling monetary transactions
  • Ability to remain friendly and professional under pressure
  • Knowledge of product locations and procedures preferred
  • Ability to follow company policies and procedures
  • Ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to handle physical demands of the job
  • Commitment to providing excellent customer service

Job Duties

  • Seeks opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
  • Maintains an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with an emphasis of taking care of the customer
  • Operates check stand equipment such as a cash register, scanner and scale to process customer orders using two aisles to check customers
  • Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
  • Processes monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, coupons and refunds while adhering to cash handling policies
  • Maintains knowledge of current product locations, monitors UPC codes and ensures proper pricing
  • Maintains a clean, neat and properly stocked check stand and ensures a safe and secure work area
  • Stocks, prices and rotates merchandise
  • May be assigned to a multi station self-checkout lane or customer service counter as needed
  • Follows all state and federal laws concerning restricted or regulated items
  • Adheres to USDA Food Stamp and WIC voucher procedures
  • Regularly moves within self-checkout area to expedite transactions and maintain safety
  • Responds to self-checkout stations to address alerts and errors
  • Monitors multiple simultaneous transactions
  • Engages proactively with customers at self-checkout to assist and ensure accuracy
  • Prioritizes safety of employees and customers by addressing concerns as per company policy
  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed
