Job Requirements
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation including nights, weekends and holidays
- ability to perform friendly, courteous, tactful relations with customers and co-workers with composure
- effective communication skills including hearing and speech
- ability to complete written forms
- ability to conduct visual inspection and read information on merchandise
- ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
- ability to operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and scales
- ability to stand or sit for long periods and perform physical movements such as bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently
- manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
- ability to learn and memorize a considerable amount of information including PLU codes and company policies
- mental alertness and basic math skills
- ability to occasionally use blades for box cutting
- ability to use household cleaners to maintain work area
- ability to navigate and manage high stress situations including volatile customers and high transaction volumes
- compliance with food safety and tobacco/alcohol sales certification as required by law
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- excellent communication skills
- ability to engage customers in a friendly and professional manner
- basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
- ability to memorize PLU codes, product locations, and procedures
- prior retail or customer service experience is a plus
- ability to handle cash and monetary transactions accurately
- good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- must be at least 16 years old
Job Duties
- Seeks opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
- maintains an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with an emphasis of taking care of the customer
- operates check stand equipment such as a cash register, scanner and scale to process customer orders using two aisles to check customers
- engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
- processes monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, travelers checks, food stamps, processing coupons, and refunds while adhering to Cash Handling and Lane Accountability policies
- maintains knowledge of current product location, monitors UPC codes and ensures proper pricing
- maintains clean, neat and properly stocked check stand and ensures safe and secure work area
- stocks, prices and rotates merchandise
- may be assigned to a multi station self-checkout lane or customer service counter as needed
- performs other duties as assigned or needed
- follows all state and federal laws concerning the sale of restricted or regulated items such as tobacco and alcohol
- adheres to USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
- regularly moves within SCO area to expedite transactions and keep area clear of safety hazards
- initiates and engages contact with customers as they process transactions
- responds to SCO station alerts and errors
- monitors multiple transactions and verifies payment
- assists customers at self-checkout kiosks to ensure accuracy and limit shrinkage
- maintains a high level of awareness in self-checkout area, anticipates customer needs and prioritizes safety
- addresses or reports safety concerns as per company policy
