Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- previous cashier or customer service experience preferred
- ability to stand for extended periods
- strong communication skills
- ability to lift up to 20 pounds
- basic math skills
- bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
- availability to work part-time afternoon shifts including weekends and holidays
- adherence to company policies and safety regulations
- punctuality and good attendance
- ability to work as part of a team
- ability to handle cash accurately
- basic computer skills
Job Qualifications
- Ability to read, write and speak English and Spanish preferred
- ability to understand and follow instructions in both English and Spanish preferred
- excellent interpersonal skills
- ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in one-on-one and small group situations with directors, managers, customers (both internal and external) and the general public
- good mathematical skills
- ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram form
- ability to use computer, cash register and lottery, money order machines, etc., to accomplish essential duties of this position and change or add receipt paper when needed
- ability to use 10-key adding machine
- takes responsibility for own actions
- ability to work hours and days scheduled, including holidays and weekends
- strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness
Job Duties
- Politely greet customers with a smile and provide excellent customer service
- attend to customers’ needs calling for manager or supervisor when necessary
- promptly scan products or weigh produce being purchased
- operate cash register accurately and efficiently accepting all forms of payment and provide the correct change when appropriate
- maintain cash drawer with sufficient currency and coins
- count out cash drawer at the beginning and end of a shift
- conduct price checks when necessary
- place items in bags for customers
- assist with loading into shopping cart when necessary
- return discarded items back to shelves when necessary
- keep the conveyor belt, scanner, scale and counter clean at all times
- assist with keeping the front of the store clean, organized, and free from safety hazards
- when requested or scheduled, straighten out displays and shelves of merchandise
- attend and/or participate in store or department meetings
- punctuality and good attendance in compliance with company policies
- ensures work responsibilities are covered during foreseeable absences
- perform other work-related duties as required to accomplish the objectives of the position
- serve as bagger or facing clerk when necessary
- add or change paper in registers, printer, adding machine or other office equipment
- report any equipment malfunctions to manager on duty
- gather shopping carts from front of store and parking lot when needed
- assist manager on duty in other departments when needed
