Job Requirements
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
- Ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Ability to communicate effectively using hearing and speech
- Ability to complete written forms
- Ability to conduct visual inspections and read merchandise information
- Ability to operate check stand equipment
- Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, stoop, twist and turn for long periods
- Must demonstrate composure in high stress or high volume environments
- Must be able to memorize considerable information including PLU codes and company policies
- Ability to perform friendly and courteous relations with customers and co-workers
- Ability to ensure accuracy in scanning and monetary transactions
- Occasionally use blades for box cutting
- Use household cleaners to maintain work area
- Comply with all company policies and applicable laws
- Obtain food safety/handlers cards and any required certifications for tobacco and alcohol sales as applicable
- Fulfill local and state legal requirements for employment
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Strong communication skills including hearing and speech
- Ability to perform customer relation tasks with friendliness and tact
- Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
- Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
- Ability to learn and memorize product location, PLU codes and company policies
- Ability to operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners and scales
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods and perform repetitive tasks
- Knowledge of cash handling and lane accountability policies
- Familiarity with sales techniques and customer service principles
Job Duties
- Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
- Maintain an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service
- Operate check stand equipment such as cash register, scanner and scale
- Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
- Process monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, food stamps, coupons and refunds
- Maintain knowledge of current product location and ensure proper pricing
- Maintain clean, neat and properly stocked check stand and safe work area
- Stock, price and rotate merchandise
- May be assigned to multi-station self-checkout lane or customer service counter
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Follow all state and federal laws concerning sale of restricted items
- Adhere to USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
- Regularly move within SCO area to expedite transactions
- Initiate and engage contact with customers at self-checkout
- Respond to SCO alerts and errors
- Monitor multiple simultaneous transactions and verify payment
- Assist customers at self-checkout kiosks and limit shrinkage
- Maintain awareness of self-checkout area and customers
- Prioritize safety of employees and customers by addressing concerns
